Mas Can Garriga

The House

Documents from the century speak of the existence in this area, of an antic flour mill, called mill Soler i Vila or, more formerly Pasqual mill. On January 23, 1699 Josep Garriga the farmer bought the house-mill along the adjoining land. Two years later, on December 28, 1701, he extended the property to land near the mill. And on December 4, 1702, Josep Garriga obtained the license to build a house on the acquired land. We can therefore consider this date as the birth of Can Garriga. During the following years, Josep Garriga and his son and heir Jaime, expanded the property acquiring land next to the house. The census of 1843, names Miquel Garriga as the owner of the house. While the farm Josep Dalmau Garriga is named in the tax registers numbers 615 and 616 of the Tax 1895 as the owner of the house and a mill. The house is built on a hill that is accessed by the door at the end of the wall that separates it from the road “Tossa – Llagostera. Nog” On the wooden door you can read the inscription «Mas Garriga / J. Rossich». We need to climb some stairs to reach the house. The house consist of three isolated constructions. Across the road there is the land of the house and the mill from the eighteenth century on the doorpost and its corresponding raft, with a side very large staircase. In the mill, «Pelegrí» Tossa restes for a few minutes when he came along Tossa: After praying and eating what was offered, pilgrims catch the shortcut Cal Rull. Since 1994 the house is named “Can Garriga Paintball”.
